A Short and Sweet “Ant-Man” Review.

*SPOILERS* for this rather rambly and fan-girlish review of the newest Marvel movie.

So I recently saw Marvel’s latest superhero movie, and was actually pleasantly surprised. I admit I was unsure of how well Paul Rudd would fit into the MCU (sorry, Paul Rudd), but I have to say he captured the sense of humor coupled with the dedication to the greater good in awesome Marvel style. Also, his relationship with Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) was actually very endearing as he became the mentor to Rudd’s rising superhero.

Some characters in the movie seemed to be oddly casted. The three buddies of Scott Lang seemed kind of awkward and overly acted. Laying it on thick isn’t really necessary for supporting characters in an origin story, since it seemed to distract from Lang’s transition from convicted burglar into Ant-Man.

From the moment I saw Evangeline Lilly on screen with that haircut, I was like IT’S THE NEW WASP! SHE’S IT! As you can imagine, I was really excited to see a glimpse of the costume she will be wearing as The Wasp in future movies.

My biggest issue was with Yellowjacket. I mean, the guy had never once before put on the suit or shrunk himself, but the second he jumps into that thing he’s as deft and limber as Scott Lang in the Ant-Man suit that took him quite a bit of effort and practice to master. It was unrealistic (yea, I know, so it the entire premise of every single Marvel comic and movie ever), but it just was silly. Ant-Man should have easily been able to freak out Yellowjacket by shrinking and growing rapidly, forcing his foe to do the same to keep up, and then taking advantage of his inexperience and subsequent vulnerability to finish him before going sub-atomic.

Anywho, it was a great movie and I totally have a biased love for Ant-Man because, as a petite and small fan girl, I love when tininess is portrayed as strength and as a superpower! I mean, look at that cute little Ant-Man!

So cute and tiny outrunning that bullet! I love ‘im! A mini hero after my own heart. So yes, definitely go and enjoy “Ant-Man”, all you awesome geeks that have somehow waited this long to see the latest released piece of the MCU. Let me know what you think!

Also, that end credits scene, though….they are planting the seeds for the Civil War. Cap’n is not too pleased with Stark…

The Joys of Nintendo

Oh how I love Nintendo.

I mean, look at that “I’m ready for action” stare.

Let’s sing a little song, shall we?

Bum bum bum…bum bum bum bum, bum bum bum BUM bum bum bum bum bum bum …..

You all know what theme this is….I will give you a hint: Itsa me Maaaaaaario. 🍄 (yes, that is supposed to look like a magic mushroom, don’t blame me, blame the emoji people for having such a limited selection).

Nintendo is the best word to describe my childhood. I played that N64 for so many hours and had so many great memories with Mario, Peach, Link, Donkey Kong, and a slew of other characters that I couldn’t get through a summer break without visiting frequently. Although I will always have a special place in my heart for that androgynous Hylian cutie with the pointy ears and the ocarina, my favorite Nintendo game has to be HARVEST MOON.

“What!?! Figures, girls never love REAL games and can’t be REAL gamers” {this is totally the reaction I am imagining you having…given someone out there is actually reading my blogs} I beg to differ. I love all kinds of games. RPG’s are actually my favorite, and I have had my fair share of playing COD and listening to random strangers talk to their bros about what a whack day at work they had while they camp on a balcony with a sniper rifle, sending tons of poor players to the dreaded respawn spot that seems to be hundreds of miles from where all the action is. But there is something about raising crops and animals as a cute little farmer in what appears to be some remote village in the beautiful countryside of Japan. I think the reason I love it so much is that you can never beat it, it just keeps going on and there’s festivals and vegetables and everything is just so freakin’ adorable!! I played it in N64, PS2, Game Boy Color, Nintendo DS, Wii U, and now Nintendo 3DS. It just brings me such joy, and isn’t that what gaming should do? I just love that little farmer.

How cute is he though?? With his little canine buddy?!

Okay, anywhoo, I was just feeling nostalgic as I play this game that has so many fond memories of my childhood summers attached to it. So many games do, but this one in particular. What about you? Is there a game that makes you feel nostalgic or that carries pleasant memories for you? Let me know in a comment!

(Side note: my favorite video game of all time on any console is Skyrim. I never get tired of it. FUS DO RAH!)

Gender Bend Cosplay in Progress!

Hey all,

So every year my fiancee and I pick some cool characters and show up to New York Comic Con in cosplay for some fun and geeky shenanigans. I am just starting to put my costume together. Two years ago I was the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, the first of her name, the Unburnt, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals and Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains and…momma to three fire-breathing babies. (Can you figure out who I want to see on the Iron Throne at the conclusion of A Song of Ice and Fire? 🐲)

Oh, and my fiancee went as Ezio Auditore. Pretty damn awesome if you ask me.

Last year we shifted to the comic theme (it is Comic Con, after all) and went matching as Felicia Hardy (Black Cat) and Spiderman. (Check out the profile pic!)

This year, I wanted to be my favorite avenger. The noble defender of the country, the chivalrous gentleman, the first Avenger, Steve Rogers, Captain America. Sigh…he is SO noble, a true paragon of integrity. Alas, I am an amateur sewer at best, and my specific vision for my feminized version of Captain was too complicated for me to do. Another con, perhaps. So instead, I am doing…

THE WINTER SOLDIER!

Of course, that cybernetic arm will be quite a challenge. Thankfully, I have some time to figure out how I will accomplish that. Any general suggestions/tips for engineering any part of the costume are welcomed (hint hint!) The only difference in the outfit I want is a more feminine top. It will be my first *slightly* interpretive cosplay, since my others have all been pretty much exact copies of the original characters. I am so excited for this one! I will keep everyone updated as I keep working on compiling materials for the cosplay.

Also, keep an eye out as I keep playing with this site and trying to make it aesthetically pleasing. And thanks for the likes/views! Again, bear with me as I get more accustomed to blogging and figuring out a good schedule for posting. I will definitely be posting at least 2 times weekly, though. Maybe more if I get enough followers (again, hint hint!) Thanks for reading 😉

A Dainty Welcome

giphy

Totally new to blogging, but as a future librarian, writing consultant, writing professor, and all around loquacious kind of gal, I think it is time I venture over to the dark side.

My posts may be a bit erratically timed at first, but I am planning on committing to a biweekly schedule once I really get rolling.

My interests are pretty diverse; I am a proud geek (not a pejorative word at all, but an awesome compliment!) and am a big fan of reading (I was a lit major in college and grad school). So instead of boring everyone with a long description about my hobbies and likes, which would probably seem impersonal and artificial since you would be reading about it from a faceless and nameless person who is typing away from somewhere in New York, I instead provide you with a list of words and phrases that capture some of my personality via my interests.

——————————————Shut the door.———————————–

By the way, props to you if you can name where that’s from. Anywho, feast your eyes:

Reading (obvi)::Drawing (I’m no da Vinci, but it’s incredibly freeing to create images with pencil)::Yoga (Ohm)::Video games (since I was 4)::Anime (Okay, only the silly frilly ones)::Cosplay (the funnest hobby ever. Try it)::Game of Thrones (Dracarys)::Outlander (Sassenach!)::Once Upon a Time (Dark Swan is coming!)::Marvel (Captain America all the way!)::Beauty and makeup (girly girl)::The Medieval Era (Whanne that Aprille…)::Food (yum)::Fantasy and Fairy Tales (398.2)::

And a boatload of other fun stuff that I can’t list here or I will bore the internet to tears with the longest list ever since Santa’s naughty and nice list. I’m sure you can infer from the above terms the type of interests I have. The Dainty Scroll will encompass all of these and perhaps more. Stay tuned, I promise to never write boring posts. Or at least try…nobody’s perfect 😉
